By Jimmy D. Brown of “Small Reports Fortune”

……………………………

I’m an observer. I watch marketers and how they work.

Jimmy D. Brown

I look at how people respond to marketing. And I’ve discovered something interesting over the years that I want to share with you as it relates to building your internet business.

Hot topics and trends come along regularly. There’s always a new “in” thing making an appearance on the radar screen. And whenever there’s a new rage, there will be marketers who jump on the bandwagon.

That can pay off big for YOU if you’re smart.

Let me explain.

What happens when a new trend or technique or tool surfaces?

*** People begin to talk about it.***

Marketers begin convincing people why they need it.
Consumers tell their stories. Discussions take place. Hype builds. Sometimes controversy breaks out. An education process unfolds.

Through it all … DEMAND increases.

Now, here’s where you come along.

You piggyback on the popularity of the latest big hit by creating a small report on the topic. You get the benefit of other marketers creating hungry leads for your offer without them even knowing it.

Let me give you an example -

EXAMPLE

When John Reese released Traffic Secrets it was a huge success.
He sold over a million dollars worth of product in one twenty-four hour period. However, at a $997.00 asking price, it was out of reach for many consumers.

But…

What if YOU had decided to write a 15 page small report entitled, “Free Traffic Secrets” and offered it for $20 … do you think you would have had any takers? Of course!

Why? Because every marketer on the planet was talking about the need for web site traffic so they could build interest in John’s course. They were creating hungry leads for your offer without them even knowing it.

All of these marketers expertly and persuasively pointed out the necessity, benefits and usages of getting web site traffic. They, in essence, would have created demand for the TOPIC of your small report.

1. Many of those that couldn’t afford John’s high-ticket product would likely buy your small report because the end result of getting site traffic was something they had been told repeatedly they needed!

2. Many of those who could afford John’s high-ticket product would also likely buy your small report because of the same reason AND they would like to know what you might offer differently than John.

Do you see how powerful this is?

Even as I type this lesson out, I have received DOZENS of emails today announcing a new co-registration product that everyone’s talking about.

I could spend a few hours this evening writing a small report on the same topic and sell it like crazy tomorrow because of everything that’s being said about the subject today.

So, what’s the lesson for you to learn here -

**The surest way to create a hot-selling small report is to pick a topic related to that which everyone is talking about.***

You know, it doesn’t matter what “market” you’re in, chances are you see the same kinds of outbreaks that I see in “internet marketing” circles …

* Major product launches
* New technologies and tools
* Fresh research
* Innovative features and improvements
* Ground-breaking news
* Hot topics of discussion
* Best-selling books
* Interest-grabbing magazine articles
* Emerging trends

The list could go on and on, right?

It shouldn’t come as a big surprise that you need to monitor what’s going on around you, specifically looking for the latest topic everyone’s talking about.

You can do this by regularly browsing 4 trend and event “hot spots”…

1. Active Forums. Find at least one ACTIVE forum related to your market and regularly visit it to look for ideas. Keyword here is “active”. The ideal forum will have a number of participants who regularly post messages.

2. News Feeds. You can begin with Google.com’s news center at http://news.google.com.
You should also look for a news feed or site that is specific to your field of interest. For example: I regularly visit http://ChristianHeadlines.com to stay on top of events related to some of my Christian sites.

3. Article Directories. Spend a few minutes at your favorite article directory, focusing specifically on the NEWEST articles posted and the TOP RECENT articles read. I regularly check http://goarticles.com.

4. Competitor’s Lists. You’ll also want to “spy” on what your competition is doing by joining their lists. When a major competitor begins highlighting certain topics in their content (I.E. “articles”) and / or releases or promotes a specific product, it’s a good indication that you should pay attention.

All of these things allow you to capitalize on the current buzz!

Create small reports based on these buzz-worthy topics.

Yanik’s 34 Rules for Maverick Entrepreneurs

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

Here’s a great post from Yanik Silver. A recent visit with Sir Richard Branson inspired Yanik to write down his 34 Rules for Maverick Entrepreneurs…

Yanik said: “I was so inspired with our time there that I started creating my rules for successful entrepreneurial endeavors. I thought it would be a top 10 list but I kept writing and writing in my journal and it came to 34 tenets that I’m calling…

34 Rules for Maverick Entrepreneurs.”

I’ve put them together for you in this short video presentation. Please allow a minute for the video to download before viewing

Free Video Series - Creating Your Custom Wordpress Blog Header

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

A few weeks ago regular visitor ‘Rex’ asked how the header graphic for Solo Profits had been put together.

I replied that it would be easier to show the process with a video rather than try to explain in writing… seemed like a good idea at the time;-)

Well, it turns out that it was ’sort of a good idea’, although I didn’t think then that the finished product would be almost an hour long and weigh-in at nearly half a gig (even in .flv format)!

Anyway the job’s done (the videos are uploading as I write).

I thought it would make a good subject for SoloReport 104, so I’ve split the whole thing into four segments for easier consumption - rather than having to view the whole thing in one go.

This is what the videos cover:

Video 1:

  • How to create a new basic document for your header using Photoshop
  • How to make a custom background
  • How to work with layers (a powerful tool for pro-quality graphics)
  • How to define a custom pattern to use in this and future artwork projects

Video 2:

  •  How to define a custom pattern (continued)
  •  Complete your custom header background using layers, opacity controls and your custom pattern
  • Add a basic headline and subhead
  • Use little-known Photoshop techniques to transform your headline with a wow-factor of 10+ (just like the pros do it!)

Video 3:

  • Add your mug shot to the header graphic and stylize it to fit with your blog’s branding
  • Fine-tune the complete design of your header
  • Use a rarely seen trick to produce precisely the complimentary colors you need for the elements in your graphic, without spending valuable time trawling through umpteen swatches and color palettes (pros do this all the time and it saves hours and hours of extra work!)

Video 4:

  • Create multiple copies of your graphic in formats you can use for future projects
  •  Apply the Kubrick .psd mask which allows your header graphic to fit the default Wordpress theme perfectly
  • Step by step - How to upload your header graphic into the live Wordpress folder so that it replaces the original default header

The videos are totally free to view. All I ask is that you login via the link below to gain access to the video material and simultaneously subscribe to “The Solo Report” so that I can keep you bang up-to-date whenever a new training video is posted.

You will immediately be sent a confirmation link by return email to the address you have submitted - so please make sure it’s a real address and one you check regularly. Once you have confirmed your request for more information you will be given direct access to the videos.

The videos are high quality streaming files, so there’s no need for you to download anything :-)

As always, I hope you find the material useful and I look forward to your comments and ideas.

All the best,
Dave.

12 Steps To Explode Your Site Traffic With Online Social Media

Friday, September 7th, 2007

Solo Report LogoBy Dave Foster

LAST YEAR SAW THE ARRIVAL OF ONLINE SOCIAL MEDIA.

If you operate a website or blog, you would be well advised to realign your site to exploit the popular social media sites for increased traffic.

Before we move on, you can now choose to do any of the following:

    1. Read on - or scroll to the end of this post and
    2. Watch the full online video
    3. Listen to the podcast
    4. Download the mp3 audio file
    5. Download the FREE pdf report and process map

You should also introduce social media components to your site because web users are experiencing these new forms of interaction on more and more sites and they will have an expectation of the same from your site too.

If you want to attract repeat visitors and want them to stay longer, your focus for the next few months should be on the social aspects of your site.

Social media uses technologies like RSS, blogging, podcasting, tagging, etc. and offer social networking (MySpace, Facebook), social video and picture sharing (YouTube, Flickr), and community-based content ranking (Digg, MiniClip) features.

The central theme of these sites is user generated content used for sharing amongst other users. The social aspects of these sites allow users to setup social communities, invite friends and share common interests.

You don’t have to change your site immediately to take advantages of these new technologies. Introduce small changes incrementally and you will be well on your way to measure up to your visitors’ new expectations.

Step 1. Declare who you are to the online community. People should be able to relate to you. Unless they know more about you, you will be just an unknown identity and most people don’t like to deal with people they don’t know. Create an About Me page to list your achievements skills and aspirations.

Step 2. Create a MySpace page and link your biography in the Profile of your MySpace page. Also provide a link back from the MySpace page to your website. Spend an hour every week to develop your online social network in MySpace. Invite a few of your new friends to write blog articles at your site about your products or services.

Step 3. Install a free blog and start publishing at least one article in your blog every week. Provide an easy bookmarking feature to social bookmarking sites like delicious (just like the ones at the bottom of this post). This is done by providing an action button for each article in your site. The action button takes users to the submission page of the bookmarking site.

Step 4. Provide an action button for direct posting of blog articles to digg. Digg is a popular news ranking site. A well dugg article will bring thousands of visitors to you.

Step 5. Provide a forum at your site for users to discuss your products and services. Don’t delete negative comments because they provide insights into the improvements needed to serve your visitors better. However, censor hate speeches and meaningless bantering. Register your forum at BoardTracker. BoardTracker is a forum search engine.

Step 6. If you are offering products, allow users to review and rate your products. This will help you in inventory management because you may want to discontinue low rated products.

Step 7. Provide RSS feeds for your new products, blogs, forum postings, etc. An RSS feed provides teasers of your content. Users will use RSS readers to scan your teasers and visit your site for more information if the teasers interest them.

Step 8. Publish all your feeds at feedburner. Feedburner provides media distribution and audience engagement services for RSS feeds. They also provide an advertising network for your feeds. If you have quality content, you will be able to monetize your material using their services.

Step 9. Create short how-to or new product videos and post these videos in social video sharing sites like YouTube, Google video. Provide a few start and end frames in these videos to introduce your site with your site url. Post these videos using catchy titles, teaser descriptions, and appropriate tags to make them easy to discover.

Step 10. Provide embedded links to your remotely hosted videos on your site. This will save your bandwidth and storage space because the videos reside in the video sharing sites rather than on your own site’s server.

Step 11. As well as videos, use social photo sharing sites like Flickr and SmugMug to share pictures related to contents in your site. Use the same title, description and tag techniques discussed earlier for social video sites.

Step 12. Provide a “Send to Friend” feature for all the products and services you offer. This feature is a link that sends the article, product description, etc. to a recipient via e-mail.

Social media is not a fad. It is here to stay and brings a profound change to web surfers’ experiences. Now is the right time to implement features that will make your site Social-Media-Friendly. Also, using marketing techniques that utilize popular social media sites, you will see a massive increase in traffic to your site.

True Online Video Arrives This Year

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

Jim Edwards writes:

TWO THINGS HAPPENED THIS WEEK that brought my focus back to online video and where all this hoopla will eventually take us.

First, I read an article about Joost, a peer-to-peer online TV distribution system created by the same people who made Skype (which sold to eBay for a gazillion dollars).

Second, my wife pointed out to me last night that our TiVo box will soon offer the option to purchase and download movies directly from Amazon through our high-speed Internet connection.

These two factors herald the true arrival of online video this year!

Mini Site Creator

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

TODAY I’M TESTING THE NEXT STAGE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS BLOG.

Over the next few weeks and months I will be adding more and more multimedia content to SoloProfits.com as it becomes a fully fledged audio visual resource for solo entrepreneurs.

This first small step is to test full motion video and what better way to do that than to introduce you to Jim Edwards’ Mini-Site Creator software in the form of this short infomercial. I’ll follow up with a post about using online infomercials for your own products and services in a few days. For now, take a look at this offering and let me know what you think.

All the best,

Dave.

Watch the presentation below then CLICK HERE to find out more about Mini-Site Creator from Jim himself.

I do say “click on the link below” in the video but this is the real link above ^…basically because I couldn’t figure out how to add a link under the video file. If anyone knows how to do this I would appreciate tips on how it’s done.

Oh yes…one more thing. This may or may not still be available but, for a limited period, Jim has been offering a FREE mp3 audio download of his “Mini-Site Secrets” interview with Dr.Jeanette Cates, so find out more and get your copy of the mp3 now.
